The mass upsurge of 1969 was started with the student unrest of 1968 against the tyrannical rule of Ayub Khan, the then President of Pakistan. The movement eventually led to the resignation of Ayub Khan and catalyzed further the nationalistic movement that eventually culminated in the independence of Bangladesh.
